mjr46, where can I find what the proper setting for the cable/rod is? And whould that being out of adjustment affect how quickly the trans shifts from 1st to 2nd to 3rd? Thanks

Cobra77,
Thanks man, great link, just what I needed, looks like I have to be careful not to make an over adjustment. Maybe the cable is bad, or when the trans was removed it wasn't adjusted right. Thanks again

Thanks for the help guys. Your input makes sense with the codes that I am looking at. It must be an AOD, but have to wonder why it shifts so quickly, where as my 91 vert AOD likes to wind out the gears a bit, and shifts great. They both have shift kits, but the 93 was rebuilt. Think maybe the rebuild was done poorly? What could someone screw up that would make it shift through gears to fast?

you'll get the 2-3 shift at about 3500, it takes a manual valve body to get it right, one that locks out od, so the 3 positions can be used for 1-2-3 instead of 1-2/3-4
the aod pan just says "metric" not aod
the aode didn't come in mustangs til '94 but was in the mark8
the aode hasstronger internals, and at least int he mark, better gearing. the aod can be upgraded to the 2.84 1st, 1.55 2nd and wider od band w/ the motorsport wide gear set

Nitrous_bob,
No, I'm not the original owner of either of them. But I can say that my 91, with 3.73s will smoke the 93 w/ 4:10's just on shifting points. My 91 winds out a lot more than the 93. On my 91, it shifts as if it were a manual, it's great. The 93 just barely touches 1st and it's into 2nd. We get no play from 1st. Never tracked tach levels at shift points...guess I need to do that. Will do when weather clears around here.

yeah i'm betting someone did a little work to your '91
the only other way to hold gears on an aod is the "shuffle" but that destroys your tranny by keeping some intermediate clutches engaged when they should not be.
i am referring to the 1-d-1 shifting teqnique where you start in 1, shift to d when you want 2nd, then back to 1 to hold 2, then back to d to shift to 3
it works, but it is destroying it as you do it.
you can look into the TV (throttle valve) pressure also, but you shouldn't set it blindly...just increasing/decreasingit very easy but you should know where your at
gearing of the aod is the #1 problem
lack of oiling is the 2nd, and the short shift points (partly due to oiling) is the 3rd
really allthose 3 combine forthe short life under moderate hp of the aod
check out lentech if you are not familiar w/ them...best stuf fon the market, other than precision industries "stallion" converter
