Default Dizzy Question

I was told to get a distributor out of an 85 mustang gt with a manual transmission because it has a steel gear. Why do I need to get a distributor with the steel gear to be compatible with a roller cam and my 302 came with a roller cam. I have an 88 mustang gt(5.0 HO) and I am changing to a carburetor setup and I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks

You need the steel gear because of the roller cam. An 85 distributor was recommended because you are changing over to carb and you current distributor is a TFI (controls injector signal).
