Default 1993 GT Tach Problems

Hello Guys,

I just bought an all original 1993 GT with 216k miles and believe it or not she runs and looks perfect. I know it sounds crazy but I am planning on keeping the car all orginal, at least until she quits on me! The problem I am having is that once I crank the car the factory tach always reads between 3000 and 3500 rpm and seems to stay within that range no matter what the engine speed is. I know I can buy an aftermarket tach but I am trying to keep the car original and was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to aleviate this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Replace the unit with a new or used original one.
