clutch and cable
hey guys i have a 91 gt and the clutch doesnt grab until its almost all the way out. the clutch doesnt slip at all and someone suggested that the cable may be stretched. it seems to me that if the cable was stretched then the clutch wouldnt dissengage...any info would be helpful...thanx john

do you have the stock quadrant ?
if so, have you adjusted it by pulling up on it, and pressing it in, doing that a few times ?
it should start to engage only about 1 1/2" off the floor

You're right, if the cable was stretched it wouldn't disengage. How does the clutch pedal feel? Is it stiff, soft, springy??? If you get a chance, get underneath the car and use a plate, or bar, or if you have the arm strength and try to disengage the clutch manually using the clutch fork. If it seems real easy to do then the fingers/spring may be bent or worn. If it seems normal then I would say your cable is binding up somewhere and not letting the fork release completely. A replacement cable is $40 through Ford. I would still recommend getting an adjustable cable w/ double hook quadrant though. Granatelli sells a fairly nice one for $50 which is a hell of a deal considering most other places sell them for $100+.
