Heater core install question
I have an 85 GT and am about to install a new heater core. My question is a friend of mine has a 79 mustang and says that it should only take me an hour tops to install a new core. He claims that there is a difference in the years and that mine falls on the old design and doesn't require me to remove the whole dash to change mine. Has anyone had any luck on a 85 or is my friend on crack..

RE: Heater core install question
In early Foxs the heater core is easy to get at, by just removing the glovebox, undoing the hoses, and the core sits on top of the register in a plastic shell.
On later model Foxs you have to remove the whole register, and dashboard.
I think the change came about in 1987 or 1988. Consult a Hayes or Chilton...
I had to do it on my 89 and had to remove the entire register. In my previous Stang, a 1980, it sat on top of the register with a couple of screws holding it in a plastic shell.
