Default replacing belt?

I recently replaced the serpitine belt on my 90 5.0. my car has afactory AC and is an auto.

The guy at the parts store gave me a belt that was about 1 1/2inch shorter than my original when i tried to put it on it was too small it wouldn't wrap around even though i had the tensioner all the way up. I doubled checked that i had it routed the right way and everything was fine but the belt just didn't fit.

I wentback and the guy gave me a cross sized one(don't know what the hell that means) but it was about the same size as my original and ofcourse that one fit fine.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Just sounds like the retard at the parts store gave you the wrong belt to begin with.

There's 2 different A/C belts. Factory A/C and dealer A/C... Dealer A/C is a bit shorter and that sounds like what he gave you.

So the belt is supposed to fit without much pressure when putting it on right?

Also on the belt that I got(the second one)the tensioner is pretty much all the way down is that correct?

The tesnioner should be about half way... and to your first question it should take a little work to slip it on. It shouldn't just go right on even with the tensioner all the way up.
