Default looking for a new motor

My 1990 LX is in need of a new motor. I have settled on a Ford crate motor, but don't know which one. I don't trust remanufactureds and have seen machine shops botch too many rebuilds in my area. I'm willing to pay a little more (like $2800 or so) but get a little less power (I know more powerful motors can be built for that money than what Ford sells). CJ Pony Parts sells a 270hp crate motor for $2800. Does Ford or anyone else offer a 225hp stock replacement crate motor for less? Thanks.

Summit Racing offers a direct replacement 225hp 302 but it is also $2900.
