Default ultimate test for electrical mastermind

i have 89 fox...

fuel gauge does not read above approx. 1/4 tank however it wil read below that and gas light does come on when almost out of fuel

i replaced sending unit ... still doesnt work

isanded surface(s) forground wires that are inside of hatch behind trim ... still doesnt work

i took harness of fuel sender unit and grounded the signal wire which i believe should make gauge read full and did not!

any suggestions? please help!

Your fuel gauge is broken.

how you figure its broken i said it reads below a certain level...the fuel gauge does move which tells me its getting signal so im thinkin more along the lines of bad connection somewhere in between

yeah the gauge is no good it happens or like they said the anti thing but i concider that the gauge too

That system is a bridge circuit with the variable on the leg with the gauge in electrical series. If you have replaced the sending unit and your power and grounds are good the little techy gnomes that live in the gauge andtranslatethe variable current to the mechanical swing of the indicator armare on strike. get a new gauge
