Hood clearnace can be tricky. Some people can clear some can't. It depends on your setup up top mainly. You can use convertable engine mounts because they set the engine down lower. You can also buy tubular k members that set the motor down lower too. And yes I do believe they use the H.O. firing order.

I'm pretty sure the last year for the 5.8 was 96. Yes all 351w's have the same firing order that is shared by the 5.0 H.O.. Hood clearance can be had if you order parts just keep it under the hood on a carbed vehicle with F.I. you will need at least 1.5" cowl in most cases.

I cleared my stock 90GT hood using a Lightning lower intake, comp cams box upper intake (the polymer one), and Energy motor mounts (I think they were Energy... not sure though).
I still had to shorten the upper box intake by .700" in order to clear... barely...
