you need to keep trying... often times the shaft isn't lined up to mate with the driven portion on dizzy...get a 1/4 inch deep well socket and turn shaft a little and try again

you can turn the motor over while trying to stab it and it should go the rest of the way down. your cam gear is already meshing with your dizzy so nothing will go out of line

yes it looks like its not hitting the pump shaft right. when we put the dizzy in my 347 it stuck up about 1/4 inch and we couldn't figure out why but just had to give it a little tap with a screwdriver and hammer to knock it down. but thats much more of a gap then what we had.

nice statement 77stang...

and the the op it looks like you just need to grab the rotor and play with it back and forth a little.pull it back out and take a look at the shaft and thwe try reinserting and hold the rotor with 1 hand and the dizzy with the other and insert it will go.

also is it a stock shaft or aftermarket?

i had the same problem, it was really frustrating, but i did the 1/4 inch drive thing and just moved it around, and it ended up falling into place for me.
