Experienced Mustang owner's only, Help needed please...
Ok,here is my situation. My friend has found a 1991 mustang in great condition. He wants a fast mustang and for the price of this one it is sort of difficult to pass up. He was in a lot of trouble when he was younger, so he will never be able to afford the insurance on a 5.0. We want to convert this into a 5.0. I wanted to know what all was entailed in the process. We are aware that a crate motor, obviously, driveshaft, computer and suspension will all be done, but what is the process. Are there any sites that show it or give you hints? WE are trying to figure what the total cost for this will be. He doesn't mind riding around in a 6 banger for a year if it is going to be worth it. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

the main harness for the engine and inside has to converted to a 5.0. i would recommend you to get a donor car that has a 5.0 parts in it and changing it over that way

It would be a 2.3L 4 cylinder.
I would recommend finding a 5.0 car to strip down and use the parts from. Remember to change the rear as well, as the 7.5" in the 4 cyl won't stand up to too much abuse.

I would buy both and just insure the non-GT. Then transfer everything from the 5.0 over to the non-GT.
Keep this in mind though, you stated that he wants a FAST car and that his insurance is high. Well for one reading those two will state that maybe he shouldn't have a fast car since he doesn't know how to control himself.
Also if he has high insurance then he probably has had either many accidents or many tickets. For one cops aren't stupid. Once they pull him over for speeding and realize when they bring the car up on VIN in their database they will see it is a non-GT...and possibly do something about it. But then again they could do absolutely nothing.
Just 2 cents.
But the easiest way I see is buy both and just convert everything over to the non-GT from the GT.
Or since in the end the non-GT will be a GT and you are lying to insurance...why don't you just change the dashes of the two so that the VIN of the non-GT will move over to the GT. The dash VIN is the only VIN looked at 95% of the time unless the car is stolen...also move the metal tag that is near the front headlight inside the bumper to the non-GT too.
And the foxes were 4cycl not V6...so insurance will be even cheaper.
