Default how to set base timing

I moved my dist. the other while changing the thermostat, having trouble with the bottom bolt on it. I tried to mark it and set it back as close as I could. I have never set base timing, do you need to connect or disconnect anything before shooting it with a light. Also what is recomended 10 btdc. Running a super charger.
thanks
mat

depends on boost level you are running what desired base is..if you have a boost retard that'd help out but 8-10 degrees max and you need to pull the spout connector and then you can set base timing which will require the use of a timing light

I am pretty sure that it is MSD, I store my car at my parents house and will be over there this weekend to check.
