Mine is getting rebuilt right now to a 306 (main bearings were shot, a bad ring and three bad cam bearings) I'm getting a completely new rotating assembly minus the rods they are going to refurbish mine. The shop I'm going to is rebuilding it and assembly the short block for $1000[8D]

Again, what are you getting for $1000?. A decent rotating assembly with forged pistons will run you $800 - $1200 for the parts alone. Add machining the block and assembly, and you're pushing $1500 minumum. You can save some money by goingwith cast or hypereutectic pistons, but you also sacrificestrength. Just another opinion!
