trans case cracked
so i install the clutch cable today, and just as i back the car out i see a massive puddle of fluid under the car. im thinking i left something loose so i put a ratchet on the drain plug and got a few turns out of, whiped the case off and walked away. i come back and theres even more fluid on the ground. the case is cracked on the lower side of the plug. i put some JB wled on it and its still seeping out.
i really just cant win.....

no i really didnt feel like removing the shifter, buying new fluid, etc..
i just spent like $40 on synchromesh not even a month ago.
i dont know why it was leaking in the first place.. i know i need to drain all the fluid out and let it dry. im just pissed off...

RE: trans case cracked
Personally, I'd leave the JB Weld in the house for fixing broken coffey cup handles. I don't know much about the 5 speeds, but I would think the case is cast aluminum?. Is the crack in the area of the drain plug threads?. I would ask about having itheli-arc'd (Tig welded), and run a tap though the threads afterwards to clean them out, and be on my way. You could have it towed to a welding shop, or call around for a mobile welder. This would be a more permanent fix.

RE: trans case cracked
the plug itself is fine i believe.
from what i can see, its just the lower base of the plug hole, i didnt take it out so i dont know if the threads are cracked but didnt look like it.
i turned it very slowly when i tightend it and didnt use alot of force.
