Default Stock AOD power rating

how much power can a stock AOD handle and if you get a shift kit would it handle any more?

Lower rear end gears will increase the power transfer of the AOD significantly, to a point. The higher RPMs will take a toll on the bearings.
I've never ran an AOD without a shift kit. I've never broke one either. I had the direct clutch wear out early on one due to TV linkage misadjustment.

I'd say 260 hp with 3.50 or 3.70 gears in back for a stock tranny.
