to answer ur question about the head, the gt40's wont caus any clearance issues with the sparkplugs and headers, but the gt40p will. u would need special headerrs for the gt40p's

if you get a good deal id say buy it you will see gains. I really like the looks of the cobra intake, id rather spend a little bit more for a cobra intake over a gt40. depending on how much the difference is of course.

This is correct, but I thinkhe meant clearance from the piston to the valves. On that notethe 86 blocksdo indeedhave flat top pistons and even with the stock cam no other heads besides the stock e6 heads will fit. They'll fit, but the valves will slam into the pistons and get destroyed. lol You can either pull everything and get pistons with valve reliefs, have them cut into your current pistons, or get this tool from isky cams that allows you to cut the valve reliefs with the pistons still in the motor. Not sure how good that works though. Thats the only thing I don't like about my 86. lol And no worries on the Y-pipe, I know how it is. lol It wouldn't have surprised me though since foxes used y-pipe style systems till 85 or 86.

When I pull the engine I may get new pistons or have them cut to fix any clearance issues that Imay have in the future. My other option is to just stay with the stock long block, rering the engine. Throw a new upper and lower on for looks and performance and just have fun with it, runs great as it is. Can the oil pan be removed from the car without removing the engine. I am going to have the trans out also, small fluid leak where the tail section bolts on to the main body of the trans. It looks like I can roll the pan out the back with the trans out, may need to lift the engine a little to do this though. Lots of small problems with this old car. The undercarrage and body are rustless, I couldnt pass it up. Good, solidfox bodys in PA are becoming harder to find. I like the 4 eyes better, less common.

Haha, I know how it is. I have an 86 myself. Clean *** car. Feels like it's been babied for it's life. Everything that goes wrong is just little **** thats wearing out. So I know how ya feel. You can pull the pan with the engine in, but it's a pita. Most guys say just pull the motor. Idk how much harder that is for you though with the s/c. I'm sure she runs like a bat outa hell with that vortec so idk. lol Good luck either way!

I added the explorer intakes not too long ago. I didn't feel any difference but my point of reference was a little skewed since I had just switched to 4.10's a week before. I just capped off my egr stuff. I still have like nine months until inspection and I plan on having a new setup by then.
