I tapped mine off original 12v switched to the coil

Yeah I going to do that to, but since mine is a 87, that harness is gone. I have to tap into the gray connector by the brake booster.

^^^^I did that on my 92!! worked great..all of the instrument cluster sending unit wires are there too I believe

When I did my conversion I noticed the shaft difference and thought the same thing!! I figured Napa screwed up but thats just how it is. Good luck
