on a fairly stock 5.0 mustang, what is the best shift point? i've heard that the 5.0 quits making power at 5,ooo RPMs but i know of people that will run their stang up to 6 grand or even redline at 7 grand. i was wondering if anyone has actually tested shift points at the track and knows what the best RPM to shift at is.thanks

actaully by playing around with mine ( auto with shift kit ) i found that if i shift at 4500 rpm it produces the best sqwak from the rear tires.... lol not to mention the best useage of the power band....

Well, because of the choking factors of a stock intake/heads, shifting any higher than 5250 or 5500 is pretty much useless. If you were to put on another intake, say a GT40 for arguments sake, you will be able to increase that a lil higher, but it's not until heads that the car will really pull up to 6000. Actually, the car feels like it would pull past 6000 if it weren't for the rev limiter at 6250.

Redline is at 6000, 7000 is the end of the tach. I wouldn't recommend 7000 on stock valvetrain/rods/crank/pistons

my peak is at 4750 because at that RPM going from 1-2 i can squeel the tires... alittle higher or lower and it's just not there

I shift at 7k when I'm really getting on it. You should have seen my buddy's eyes when I did that the other day... he was watching the tach as the needle flew up the scale, then past the yellow... then past the red... all the way to the end.
Quite often I'll shift out of first at about 4500 and then ride second out since I've got a hard time with the traction in first.
