starting problems

get a hair dryer and blow it on the tfi module while the car has been sitting and is cold. after you warm it up a bit try to start the car. If it starts shut the car off right away and remove the distributor cover and blow the hair dryer in the distrib and than put cap back on and try to start. Btw you dont have to disconnect the wires for the cap part.

I just went through this. I replaced the PIP sensor/stator/Hall Effect/whatever you want to call it, and the TFI/Ignition Module together. What happens is the PIP's field windings create heat that melts/softens the casing that they are in, and the PIP signal becomes erratic or non-existent until the casing firms up/hardens again. That's why they tend to start after they cool. As far as the TFI goes, I would relocate it. I just did mine. I mounted it on the passenger shock tower. It dropped 58 degrees in running temperature just moving it.
