Clunking, shocks?

the other guys here have a good point by checking all your bushings upper and lower, id also check your sway bar end links as well...can we get a description of your vehice? year? is it AOD?, Manual? i did have a clunking sound come from my drive train, it turned out to be the wiring to the AOD had been melted. this caused the tranny to makes sound and shift incorrectly. if you have a bad Shock, replace it, as a matter of fact i just changed all 6 of mine with KYB struts and shocks for $250 and i couldnt be happier..
Its an 89 GT with an AOD in it. All Stock.
The clunking is only on deceleration at low speeds. On turns, and acceleration I don't hear or feel the clunking. It almost feels as if the UJoints are gone again but they're not.

if you can, put the car in the air and drive it. have a buddy look under the car.
i had a similar problem but it was a broken spring.
im still trying to solve the bucking problem.. like something isn't engaging when i first hit the gas.

I have clunking when going from light decel to accel to decel etc.
Sounds like backlash but I opened my cover and the ring and pinion lash is about 0.02".
Looks like the TracLok unit is the source of the slop.
Check yours.

My biggest fear is that I need to rebuild my rear end. I hope something shows up on the suspension check. I dont have the $ for a rear rebuild.

I just took the stang out on the highway to see if the problem persists.
The car shakes almost violently and pulls to the left a bit. I wouldn't say its undriveable on the highway but it is very very shaky.
I've never had this problem before >.<

After looking underneath the car and not finding more than a leaky shock in the rear I took the car over to a muscle car shop.
They said in addition to the bad shock in the rear, the left axle is bent.
While he's already in the rear do you think I should swap the carrier with a new one or just rebuild the clutches? Also, how necessary are 31 axels? Will i need anything more than 31 spline axels and carrier?
I was thinking about putting some gears in but the car is so darn fun to drive over 90 mph with the stock gearing. Although I know how dangerous these cars can be at those speeds without alot of work done.
