Default 347 COOLING PROBLEMS

after owning several stang over the years it appers i have bought someone elses problems. lol I have a 347 car that still has a factory radiator and is still cooled by a factory fan clutch. Car will run miles upon miles on the hwy with now cooling problems but creeps up in town. never runs hot enough to steam over or show signs of being hot put the gauge moves between the mark at the m and the next mark up which i believe is just a little to warm. Any ideas as to where to start. flushing the system tonight and going to a 180 thermostat as i dont know what is in there. my question is will the factory fan and radiator handle the job?

if they are operating properly the stock stuff will cool a 347. however if you are only overheating at stops or slow speeds you need a new fan clutch or convert to a electric fan.

I was not sure if the factory stuff would handle it. I thought that being in town was the only problem that it might be a clutch fan issue. going to flush the system and put the new stat in it to be safe. I also have a fan off an old 3.8 taurus that i think will move plenty off air. I think i will just get rid off the factory fan and fan clutch. just didnt want to go to all the work just to have to replace radiator. dont like doing things twice. lol

if it town driving / slow speeds is the issue then it is a lack of air flow problem across the radiator, new fan clutch or a good elec fan used with thermostatic switch will solve the issue
