Default Need suggestions for temp gauge problem

I've got an aftermarket temp gauge that will fluctuate say from 190-240 within a matter of a couple of seconds and then go back down. It has happened while driving but mainly does it when i'm leaving from a redlight...and i mean leaving slowly. It jumps up 50* or so then goes back to original temp. I dont believe i'm running hot and the oil and coolant look fine. I havnt troubleshot it yet...just wondering if anyone else has had this problem so maybe i can eleminate some steps and go right to it.

Thanks Fella's

What gauge, and is the coolant system full and free of air pockets? When did the problem start and was it after a repair or install?

It's the car i traded the black fox for. I cant remember what gauge...i'll check when i get home. I have gotten the car up to temp and burbed the cooling system to no avail. And like i said i just got the car and i havnt done anything to it. I talked to previous owner and he said it never happened with him. With the way the temp jumps from leaving from a stop...i just wouldnt think that would be accurate but IDK.

temp gauges generally go up when the lead wire is grounded, so i'd trace the lead from the temp sensor to the gauge, sounds like when you take off, the wire moves a bit and grounds, probably near the metal bracketry in the dash
