Default overheated

So I over heated my 5.0L, pretty bad.. It started making a clatter noise after it got really how, and now it still clatters a little bit.. it sounds kinda like im low on oil.. If i overheat the car, will i burn up my oil? there is no puddle or anything, so i know its not leaking down the block or anything.. I wasnt driving when i did this, i was just trying to remove the air pockets from the cooling system and it got way too hot. Thanks

mighta blew a head gasket if it got hot enough, or warped the block.....and why were you trying to remove air pockets?????

I just put new heads on, so i just filled the system back up, and you get air pockets when you do that..

you should always have the heater running when doing such to purge the air as heater core is often the high point in the system.........you should be fine just don't do it again , what I do is when it hits 3/4 gauge I shut it off and let heat soak open the t-stat then after checking fluid level and letting it cool after a few minutes start it back up and watch gauge while monitoring heat output from heater

How hot did you get it? And, Why would you get it so hot the engine clatters?

Heater core has been bypassed, so no heat. Also the gauge, well, doesnt work..
