Tranny Questions
New to the forum, looking at buying a 94-95 GT with a 5 speed. I'd like to put some shorter gears in it (at least 4.10's) and a set of slicks mounted on race wheels for track use. Problem is the car needs to be street/strip as I do alot of highway driving. I've looked at some technical schematics of the T-5 WC and have read some rebuild articles, and it looks like the overdrive gearset comes off pretty easy. Are there any companies manufacturing taller overdrive gear kits?
Maybe a little crazy but stock OD ratio is .68:1. Second gear is 2:1 but if reversed the new ratio would be .5:1, a nice OD gear. I have access to a machine shop and could do some simple modification if needed.
Another option I've thought through is putting in a T-56. This way I'd already have a .5:1 OD and a better first gear too. I know a guy with 02' cobra that's done the swap. Has it been done on any 5 liters?

What are you really looking to get out of this car? The tranny work you are looking at doing seems to be quite extensive and expensive depending on which way you go. IMO, if you want a low gear for around the town driving, you will lose some highway driving. If you only want to drag race, get the 4.10's and run a good tire and have fun. If you want to DD, run a 3.73 and with a good tire, it will still be very track worthy. Either way wont kill your DD either.
Bottom line, what are your goals and how much do you want to spend?
