My car had trouble starting like it would just click when I tried to start it. I changed the starter relay and it fixed it, but now my car seems to idle higher. It used to idle at 750 now it stays at like 1400...The starter relay i used i had sitting in my garage for about 12 years and was from a ford taraus, it was brand new in box still. I brought it to an autoparts store and they ran the code on it and its the same for my car...Im just wondering if the starter relay can have anything to do with my idle.

no but if you had the battery disconnected for any length of time this wipes out the KAM = Keep alive memory in the ecm where all the adaptive strategies such as learned idle counts and other drivibility learned tables are stored, you need to perform a base idle reset procedure = search in the stickies or google it

while your motor is running disconnect your IAC motor, set your base idle via your TB. shut off vehicle. plug back in the IAC motor. turn your car back on. and wallah! fixed idle.
