Default Please Help, Tranny Install Problem

Whats up, my friend and I just replaced the clutch in his 88 Mustang Gt, the problem is we can get the tranny into the relase/throwout bearing but can't get the splines to line up with the clutch splines and push them together so the tranny and bellhousing are flush against each other, there is about a 1-2 inch gap between the tranny and bellhousing. We put the driveshaft back in and started turning the output shaft but still can't get it to slide in all the way. Anyone have and tricks or tips to help this go smooth? Could the clutch have gotten knocked a little when we tried the first time? If it did get knocked should I just take off the bellhousing, loosen the pressure plate and use the clutch alignment tool again? Thanks.

I would start over and re-align the clutch. Also , when you get a good alignment the tranny does'nt slide all the way in flush on its own , you have to bolt it up and tighten it in, going around the bolt pattern to get it to mate up flush.

Are you sure it won't just sit flush up against the bellhousing? I was under the impression it would...how much space should be between the bellhousing and tranny before you bolt it down?

you didnt align the clutch plate properly when you torqued the pressure plate on.
if it is aligned properly it will slide in.

I just did mine today.
