Default air in cooling system...

Ok I been having a problem with my car running at the right temp. Some days it runs at the right temp and then some days it runs way hott.the days it runs hot I check the radiator hose and there is no water in the hose after the car being running. My question is that will air in the system do that. I think im going to a a MR gasket. I think the term for my problem is air lock. is this where air builds up right where the therm is and the therm doesnt open. cause some days it works and some days it doesnt.

try a new thermostat and test the old one. make sure your rad is full, not your overflow bottle but your rad.

Just yesterday I was fighting a very similiar problem.I had a stubborn air bubble.
It took 2 days of driving and filling to finally get the air bubble out of the system and now all is fine.

I had a problem like that after I put a whole new cooling system in my car the radiator was full. So I let it run and when it started to get to warm and sucked the coolant down had the cap off and shoved a garden hose with water in there and squeezed the upper radiator hose it was a big air pocket it took me and a firend a couple times to get it out he learned it from a delership so I would try somthing like that.
