I have 245-50-16 up front and they rub. I would go skinnier than that.
ps: I have pony wheels

If you don't want the car to jerk the wheel to follow any little line in the road, go with less than 245 width up front. I would say a good mix is a 225 on a 15 inch wheel. Shouldn't have any rubbing in the front with 225's, but a 325 will not fit out back without modifications.

On an 8" rim I'd say 245 is a good fit. Also I think the way a tire tracks has a lot to do with the style as well as the size, my 265s don't follow lines in the road that I've noticed.
