Default 89 to 90 Cluster Swap

I am swapping out the steering and instrument cluster this week from my 90 Mustang and using an 89 as my donor car. Does anyone know of any issues surrounding this particular swap or is it pretty much just a plug in job. Both cars are in different places and have had the dash removed already so it is difficult to remember what the wiring looks like for the two.

I have removed most everything I know relating to the airbags in my car (sensors and module) and have a 5 point harness for my personal protection. I hope that this is all that I would need to worry about when dealing with the airbag situation. I just am not sure about the harnesses that I need to reconnect everything else. I read somewhere about having to install a new multifunction switch somewhere, but I hope that it is part of the new steering set from my donor car.

89 column will fit, the 89 cluster will not. airbag column required a different bracing structure for the column thus requiring a change in the cluster design.

I just need to swap everything out then, the column, the bracing, the cluster, and then hook up the wiring. Does that sound right?

if you really want to get that far into it, yah. you're talkin about grinding god knows how many rivets and welds, etc..

much easier to find a cluster from another 90.

I want to have tilt steering for my car, so that is why I am giving this a try. Is it really that bad of a problem to do this? I definitely don't want to kill myself out on doing the impossible.

if all you want is tilt steering there is no need to replace your whole cluster just swap the columns and your multi function switch .. i put a 89 column in my 93 for the same reason ,it was very easy .. hardest part is removing the bolt in the engine bay just a tight lil spot ....

I am lucky in that respect because the engine is out at this time. Thanks for the info!
