Default Did my fuel pump take a dump?

Well I took the car to a good friend of mine to check out th problem i was having with my car. At times it start great, while other its kind of hard and if it does it would give me this really bad idle and it will shut off. He tested the fuel pressure and said it was low. So Im guessing its the fuel pump going bad... so my questions are
What type of fuel pump is it recommended (volume wise)?
Is this the reason why its not running full power?
Is it difficult to replace it myself?

thanks in advance

I don't know if you have a fuel pump problem. How much pressure do you have when it is running bad.

make sure there are no restrictions in the system such as a plugged fuel filter, if all is well, what did he spec pressure at ???? if in deed it was low the pump windings may have high resistance causing a lack of optimum pump operation but also high resistance in connections and in the fuel pump relay/ccrm can cause a voltage drop and cause the pump not to operate at full speed so if it's your prob??? who knows, proper troubleshooting needs to be done.
