Default Trunk Leaking Problem

OK, I have a seal failure in the trunk and have no idea if it's a sealer, a part, or what the hell the name is or what to look for, or where to get it. I have an image attached pointing to the spot. It's the channel NOT THE RUBBER WEATHER STRIP that's leaking. There is a hard, but maluable material lining the channel in the trunk, however it's pealing up/shrinking and allowing watter to seep between the cracks in the frame and it's leaking into the trunk. I have it patched with caulk, but it looks like poo poo and isn't fixing the problem, it still leaks, but not as bad as without caulk.

Please, I need to know what this part or material is and how to fix the problem.

personally I'd remove everything from the trunk and hop in there while someone squirts it with water and with a light look for point of entry.....a body shop may know what that matting is called, personally I'd use seam sealer to seal any leak areas

Done that, it's getting around the caulk, and where it drips down isn't where it's leaking. There was a new leak that's formed, this time towards the top (cab) of the trunk. I know this crap has a name, and the sealer/caulk, while holding it's own, isn't perfect.

Do like MJR46 said and use seam sealer.

You can honkey engineer it and just adjust your trunk latch so that your trunk lid seals tighter or you could just buy new weatherstripping and fix it right.

I wouldnt be using caulking.

You could use windshield "RIBBON SEALER" for a fix.VATOZONE sells it.

it is just another type of seam sealer they had some that came in a strip like take and you could just put it over the seams and it would stick have not seen and for years. other then that you are gone to have to clean the old off go to the autobody supply store and buy you some some seam sealer and smear it on there. but you got to get the old off first and when you are done it will need to be painted the seam sealer is not clear or in color for you car.
