Default spring removal help

is it necessary to use a spring compressor to remove the front springs? the chilton manual that i have suggests to use a spring compressor. i am wondering if i can just jack up the control arm, unbolt the strut, tie rod ends, sway bar end links, etc. then slowly lower the control arm. is that possible/safe?

thanks.

It works fine, yeah it's more dangerous but doable this way.
How I just recently removed mine.

You can get them out without a spring compressor by prying them out. But it is dangerous. Tie a chain around it if you go that route. Its best to take it to a mechanic. I had springs and shocks all around and the labor was only $200. A well worth $200!!

I just loosened the control arm bolts, unbolted and seperated the ball joints, tie rod ends, then hung on the control arm...this of course was on a lift. They just popped out.

Get it done and make some $. Id rather pay to have the bigger jobs done. Its worth it for me to shell out some cash instead of getting dirty, especially with springs. People have gotten hurt from them before, aint gonna be me.
And $200 is dirt cheap here. Im in NY.

I popped em out with a crow bar--i don't recommend when you can rent a compresser for a couple bucks for an auto supply store.

Well this is the way you could do it,jack up the car and put the front on jack stands, and have a floor jack under the lower control arm, loosen your tie rods, swaybar end links, struts, and of course remove you brake caliper. And just lower the jack once every thing is loose, once the lower control arm is down all the way just give them a slight tug from a long prybar and they should just fall out,and install is just reverse of that process. And the rear is grave just undo your shock and quad shocks and have the car on jack stand again so you can allow the rear end to lower and just give them a slight tug with a prybar and volia, the rear have hardly any pressure on them once the rearend is at full sag so there is really no worrys for them flying out
