Default Rear Gear Size Identification

My buddy and I and trying to figure out what rear gear he has in his 88.

Whats the formula to calculate by amount of d shaft revolutions compared to wheel revolutions?

If it's the stock rear end and gears, there should be a tag on the read end cover that says what ratio they are.

count the teeth on the Ring & divide by the teeth on the Pinion = Gear Ratio

...3.73's = 41/11....

jack up the car, get someone to spin the wheel slowly one complete time, while thats being done count how many times the driveshaft does a full rotation. used chalk to make a mark on the driveshaft..

then just guess on how close it is to a possible gear ratio.. ( 3 and a half spins = 3.55 probably, etc)

Yeah we did that. The DS spun 2 1/4 times per 1 revolution of the wheel.

wheel size will affect accuracy too......I usually just pull the cover as it only takes about 30 min to complete the whole process

wheel size doesnt make a difference because your counting number of rotations, not distance traveled per rotation
