Default Timing Cover

Recently discovered there is a 1 1/2-3/4" crack in my timing cover. It's on the top left hand side. It is not cracked all the way through, but I am still concerned. Was wondering, should I just have it welded or go brand new? Guy on craigs has an oil pan and timing cover (both powdercoated) asking 50 for the combo. The parts are from a 85 H.O. though. I'm just wondering if they differ compared to my Non-H.O. Thanks.

Even if your timing cover is cracked its not like its gonna leak anytime soon. as long as its not near the coolant passages you will be fine...for now at least. If you find a cover that has provisions for a mechanical fuel pump you can purchase the block off plate pretty cheap.

I have 4 covers left, two with dipstick and two without if thats of any help, main thing whichever cover you get is make sure it is flat as they do warp. I put mine on a big sanding belt and work them back and forth with the machine off until all mating areas are shiny.

Yea this one has provisions for a mechanical fuel pump. But, that's what I have anyways. So it's whatever. Thanks for the input guys. The other thing I was worried about was the powdercoating? Idk if that might mess with the mating??

Sand all mating surfaces by hand until you get to the metal and take your time not to scratch up the parts you see. Time consuming but if your motor is the same color it will look good and if antifreeze gets on it the color won't change (my old ford blue had purple streaks after bc of coolant leaks ).
