Default Idle issues

I have been dealing with these issues for a while. When the car is started from cold it idles fine but not when it is started when the engine is hot. The car gets a surging idle only when the car is started sometimes it will cut out without giving it throttle. The idle steadies out after a few surges and idles normal.
The cutting out thing is really getting on my nerves. Has anyone had this problem or know what could be wrong?

Thanks

Probably your idle air control (IAC). Sometimes pulling it out and cleaning it works or just get a new one cause they aren't very expensive.

i have an 86 that had that same problem. i did buy a new iac it did help it out a little but i also bumped up my idle speed a little. That did take care of my idle problem.

I have cleaned the IAC and that didn't change anything and the idle when warm is already pretty high idling at 900rpm. Shouldn't the fact that it had a perfectly steady idle when started from cold mean its not the IAC?

Check for codes. Try cleaning the MAF.
