Default oil pressure

im currently putting my car together, its close to being ready to be started. i just installed the oil pressure gauge. my question is does the starter move the motor quick enough to get a reading on the gauge? when i turn the car over the gauge dosent move. i wanna make sure i have oil pressure before i start the motor so is this normal?

Pull the dist and prime that engine before you start it. It's critical!

because you took the heads off you need to prime your oiling system to ensure lubrication to the valvetrain. +1 to priming

you can use an old dist. or a priming rod with a drill...you can also if you have nothing else is lube all the contact points put it together..unplug your coil wire and fuel pump fuse then start the engine this will turn the engine over @ around 100 rpms I 'd said within 15-20 sec you should have 15 psi..

go to autozone, you can borrow one. they will ask for a $20 deposit but you get your money back when you return the tool
