Question Drive shaft bolt size

Tommarow im installing my aluminum driveshaft. When i was under the car last week i noticed the bolt's where 12point(i think there called), that i dont have sockets for.

what size are they, and can a wrench work on them? or do i have to buy a special socket?

also do you think its possible to install the driveshaft without removing the H pipe?

id like to just rip the old one out, and slide the new one in, it will be a pain if i have to remove the mid-pipe. (doing this in a parking lot with the car on jackstands.)

thanks in advance.

I have a socket set up just for these. It's a thin 12mm 12 poit impact socket on a pinned Impact universal. Take me about 20 seconds to get the driveshaft out of a Mustang. Mine has U bolts so I'm using a 9/16 wrench on those babies, lol. Yes it's possible to get the driveshaft out over the H pipe. If the wheels are on the ground it will come right out. On a lift where the rear is dangling it can be a little tougher. Juak it uo and put the jack stands under the axle tubes and let the weigh off the jack. That will give you plenty of clearance with long H pipes.

Just remember to take the car out of gear when it's on the stands, You will have to turn the shaft to get to all the bolts with a socket.

just got done swaping them out, drove the car around the building and it's smooth.

taking a quick break, then imma go test drive it and see if it fixed my vibration issues.

you guys where right, the new aluminum driveshaft is a bit harder to get around, i think its about half a inch bigger in diameter then the stocker.

aluminum driveshaft was 14.5lbs

stock was 23.5

That's a weight loss of around 9lbs!!!!!

i was expecting 5lbs, not 9.

i weighed it on my bathroom digital scale, so it could be off by a bit, but i weighed both of them twice, and back to back, so it should be pretty accurate.
