Default Transmission Problem?

I've got a 92 LX 5.0 5 Speed with 150,000 miles that I've owned since new. The trans, driveshaft and rear diff are all origial. Recently I've started noticing a rather loud noise especially in 3rd-5th gears under load. Clutch in and the noise goes away. I've also developed a vibration that feels like its coming from the rear of the car at highway speeds at the same time.

So I'm wondering how long does a T-5 usually last? Do they usually give any specific warning before they fail? What do you guys think Trans or maybe a U-Joint?

Thanks for the help.

deff sounds like u joints need to be replaced. you can do a quick check, just grab the drive shaft a give it a good wiggle. there shouldnt be any slop in it. as far as your noise in 3rd through 5th...if solve your vibration first and see if it effect the noise.

t5's last as long as the user takes care of them. just depends on your driving. they are however a fairly weak tranny.

Thanks for the replies. Its a stock motor with only a flowmaster exhaust so its basically a stock car. I'll check out the U-Joints and let you know what I find.
