i am running a 4banger t5 and i love it. the gearing is way better and the reason its rated less is because of the gearing and even the v8 t5 is under rated for even a stock 5.0 so to answer the question if you have 300hp with torque around 400 you need a geforce t5 rebuild to handle. stock is rated at 260ft lbs or so.... most stock efi 5.0s make 300ft lbs which is why the temporary 5 doesnt last, lol

Yeah, stock V8 t-5 is rated @ 265lb/ft and the cars had 300 stock.
Mine has been drove pretty hard in it's 165K miles and has had nothing but 1 clutch @ 130K, 1 fluid change @ 100K. It has been thru slicks and NOS (on a weekly basis for a long time and was a daily driver) and has never broken. It has been Ford Tough for sure!!!

my original one made it 232k i think it ate up the pocket bearing and bearings where the input shaft meets the out put but the gears are all pretty good it ate up the stock retainer after it lost the bottom 2 bellhousing bolt. my second one leaked all its fluid and destroyed the input gear. pics of carnage

Yep, it lived a long life!! That's alot of carnage there

Mine is noisy and the syncros are worn. Shifts like a dump truck, but still keeps on trucking.
I'm hoping that this 85 shifts alot smoother. I drove my friends 93 awhile back it it was so smooth, I couldn't believe how easy it shifted. Even with the short Hurst handle. I have to run the stock handle on my Hurst shifter, cause it's hard to shift without the leverage of the longer stick. I have the Hurst Chrome stick, but it isn't shaped right. If I bolt it up with the the splines meshing like they should, 1/3/5 gears are in the dash. I can bolt it on backwards and it is better, but too far forward. I think It have have been boxed wrong. The console plate is 87-93, but I think the stick may be 79-86.
I like the old school stick, but it doesn't fit right.
