Default T5 question

What is the difference in a T-5 that is behind a 5.0 mustang originally and one that is behind a 4 banger? Which would be better?

something other than a t5

different year t5's have different ratios and tq capacity rating. be specific what year t5 you are referencing.

I'm going to hijack this thread. I found a good deal on a low mile T-5 from a 85 5.0 HO Capri. (Same as GT Mustang). Is it worth putting in my 88 LX? Mine could use an overhaul with about 165K on the clock.
I'm pretty sure that the 85 has a 2.95 1st vs my 3.35 and that's ok, I have 3.55's already. I can get motor and trans (carb to tailshaft) for $400. Been in a garage for 10 yrs. Project never got built. I would probably just buy that tranny if it is worth using.

Perhaps I should just go C4 with a 2800 stall

Nice list, I found a small version in a car craft article as well

'83-'84 2.95:1 1.94:1 1.34:1 1.00:1 0.72:1 2.76:1*
'85-'89 3.35:1 1.93:1 1.29:1 1.00:1 0.68:1 3.15:1
'89-on 3.35:1 1.99:1 1.33:1 1.00:1 0.68:1 3.15:1
Tremec 500 3.27:1 1.98:1 1.34:1 1.00:1 0.68:1 3.01:1
Tremec 600 2.87:1 1.89:1 1.28:1 1.00:1 0.64:1 2.56:1
Tremec 600 2.87:1 1.89:1 1.28:1 1.00:1 0.82:1** 2.56:1

Looks like the 85 is a direct drop-in.

Thanks.
