Actually, the pushrods might be the problem. He says it's a crate motor, but what type of cam is in it and what pushrods did you use? And is it a crate short block or did it have different heads on it? Need a few more details.

the pushrods are the ones listed by edelbrock for use with that cam and those lifters http://edelbrock.com/automotive_new/..._ford_sb.shtml
But why after a few minutes of running is it still click after the new lifters have been pumped up?

the cam is edelbrock rpm performer, flat tap
