Default new rearend

going to look at a used 8.8 with 3:73 on sunday. so just to make sure it will fit, measure drum to drum, measure where the springs are attached, and measure the diff to make sure the drive shaft will fit. anything im missing?

Looks like you have the 'fit' part down. What about the function? You don't want to go through a swap to end up with a howling rear end...

The gears set up in the rear end incorrectly will make it howl. If it's an 8.8" ford rear end, it will fit.
