Get something you can trust on the car before the engine is toasted. I asked about the gauge 3 pages ago. $50-60 bucks for a gauge that you know is working, or a few K for a new 347. Whatever works for you.

well this thread has gotten interesting..... anyways, the car is holding normal pressure again somehow? 30ish at idle. i looked at the oil pressure sensor today and its attached like 2 inches away from the block to some tube, and the wire that runs from the sensor to my guage is burnt a little from touching a header i think? im gonna replace the wire and see if it helps.

remember when dimebag(i think thats who this happened too) had his dizzy shaft twist and break and it was too late by the time the engine seized because of the damn electrical gauge.
Oh man, memories.
Bought my 88' Fox about 2 weeks ago. Drove it for 3 days and started hearing a knock/tick.
Luckily I had a $1400 check coming in, so we tore the engine apart and couldn't find the problem. After tearing everything apart and taking the heads to the shop to be reworked(Decided to go with a full rebuild), we noticed the Oil Pump drive shaft snapped off in the bottom of the distributor. Couldn't find the rest of it, just the tip that was stuck in there. Eventually found the rest of it, damn thing looked like a drill bit. The guy I bought it from said it was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago, but we don't see that. He may have rebuilt it, and not changed the oil at all for 30,000. Oil pump was completely seized, shaft was twisted/snapped off. No wonder I felt a loss of power. Wasn't getting any oil to the top end.
Best of luck to you.

Could be an oil pump shaft bent, broke, etc. But start with knowing if the gauge is working.
I certainly was on to something. Glad you are getting sorted out.

does the extender tube for the sensor do anything special or just move it away from the block...

That is just to move it out from the block for the bell style sending unit. I forget what year fox started it,91 I think, had a different sending unit that went straight into the block. But I wouldn't worry about your motor being damaged because you didn't run it very long.
