'90 5.0 Engine slows to a stop
Hi All,
I am a proud new owner of a 1990 Mustang 5.0 GT! Today while getting
off the highway going to work my engine lost RPM and stopped. I had
already downshifted into 2nd gear and suddenly the car felt like I had
taken my foot off the gas, but despite giving more throttle, the car
just stalled. I found it weird because the engine just didnt stop, but
the RPM dropped before stalling. I had to restart the car 2 times in
the space of about a mile, the 2nd time as I was pulling into the gas
station. The tank was low but I dont think I was empty. This has
happened to me before when I had plenty of gas in the tank. (As a side
note I had changed my sparkplugs, oil and adjusted my timing last
night)
Could it be a problem with my fuel delivery?
Thanks a lot for any help!
-James

RE: '90 5.0 Engine slows to a stop
I would check your fuel pressure, it sounds like your fuel pump is going south. I have seen many 5.0s and many cars in general when the fuel pressure drops the car will run but not well, usually after the pump gets hot. My friends 5.0 would stall out and die and he couldnt restart it for about 10 minutes then the car would start up and run for another 30 minutes or so before it would stall out again. Since the pump is electrical it can do some weird stuff when they get hot. That would be the first thing I would do is check your fuelpressure, and if its OK when cold take the gauge with you and check it when the car starts to act up after its hot.

yeah check your fuel pressure, and if you need a new pump and you plan on moddin your car get a 190lph or 255lph
