Default Key Ignition Help

when I put the keys into the ignition and turn the car on and then turn it off, I am not able to pull the keys out at all with out pushing the **** under the steering wheel. I didnt have this problem before until my friends and I were taking care of some wiring during a head light issue. Once we put everything together again, I noticed that a couple of fasteners where laying around in my car near the steering wheel once we were completed with our tasks. I don't know if that has to do with anything but I figured I would put all the information out there. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN, IT IS VERY ANNOYING HAVING TO PUSH THAT **** EVERYTIME TO TAKE MY KEYS OUT! Thanks.
