You can rent those items at Autozone. They're usually free, but you have to leave a deposit.

In the meantime, do yourself a favor, and don't call that mechanic again. Anyone that tells you to pull the coil wire, and suggests you replace the motor without seeing it, isn't doing you any favors. You'd have gotten better tech advice calling a bank than that guy.

you only need the compression gauge. but make sure u get one with some sort of extention hose on it so u can actually get it into your spark plug holes.. Im pretty sure thier around 50 bucks or you could just rent one from auto zone like said above. You wont need a remote starter, you can just get someone to crank the car over a few times on each cylinder while you check the gauge.. or other way around
