Default ac not working right

I have a 90 gt that the ac will stop working on sometimes. When it stops working it is after I have been driving around for awhile the compressor kicks off when this happens. Then it may work again with out even killing the car just turning of the ac for awhile, and it's always worked if I kill the car and let sit for 20 mins or so. Other days I may have no trouble at all. The compressor sounds good when it's running. What should be some of the things I need to check for.

If you have an electric fan make sure it's wired to the A/C circuit, and check to see if the condenser is plugged. Other than that put some gauges on it to see what's happening.

your comp. clutch could be going out or it just might need to be recharged

you need to see what the pressures are doing = need gauges hooked up
