Default Mods and Cost to get a stock 302 to 400rwhp?

I am sure this topic gets beat to death, but my search did not really find a lot of info on this. I have found someone who has a stock 1990 GT with 75k miles on it and is willing to trade his car plus cash for my 99 GT. The car is in pretty good shape and sat in someone garage for quite a while. I have always wanted to build an 88 to 93 gt into a street strip car and I am thinking about doing the trade. The car has no mods at all and I was wondering what would be a good path to get where I want to be. I want to do the build the correct way as far as suspension, brakes, engine, and transmission. What I have decided on doing so far is going with a tremec transmission, forced induction and forged internals. I guess what I am asking is what steps and mods you guys would do to reach my goal. I am not going to be doing it all at the same time, I am planning to do this slow over time. Also, whats a ballpark cost for each step. Thanks for your help

Just read an article in the latest issue of Muscle Mustangs, they took a junkyard 302 and put some parts on it without touching the bottom end and made 399hp....try and look it up...

the cheapest way to (initially) would be a good h/c/i and a hundred shot. say 1500 for heads (trickflow or afr are probably the most common choices), 500-700 for and intake (rpm2 or holley), 200-300 for cam, 7-800 for a nitrous setup, then another grand or two for all the little stuff.

cost is a relative term here... are you doing the work ??

the labor will come close to the parts cost (R&R of the HCI) port work etc.

but my plan for 400 involves ported al heads, cam , intake port matched and 100 shot of nitrous

for 400 NA , it will take more than just HCI, 347 w/ pretty heavy work

The majority of the work I will have done, but the more simple bolt on mods I will be doing. Here is what I am thinking in terms of order of mods: First was going to go with full exhaust, headers, mid pipe and new mufflers. Then I was going to go with new heads, intake and a somewhat mild cam. Some time after this I was going to go with a supercharger, depending on funds hopefully a procharger. Then which ever lets go first, transmission or the bottom end will be replaced next.

400 horses at the wheels, you can put money on the transmission going. My car should be close to 280 or even 300 horses at the wheels and I wouldn't trust my t-5 to hold up to it at the track.

Of course i don't granny shift either

that is why the t-5 is coming out ahead of time and the 3550 is going in

mild h/c/i plus supercharger you'll hit your goal no problem. then when the bottom end goes get it built for boost, upgrade to a custom cam, and port the heads/intake and throw more boost at her. it'd be fun.
