Default Crappy AOD Tranny's

I just a '90 fox body i did H/C/I already but the Aod trans aint worth a crap!

So my question is what do you guys do to these tranny's in order to be responsive! Is it the same basic idea as the AODE i had in my 94. Just do Stall,Shift kit, Gears?

The AOD in my 91 is a POS too, despite a rebuild. Won't hold in 2nd if you're shifting manually.

Sounds like you're on the right track, unless you want to toss it and get a manual tranny. Which is what I'd love to do.

I HAD considered a B&M Hammer shifter, still am. Dunno if that will give you what you're looking for, but you may look into it. Then again, I may be way out in right field on the suggestion.

AOD's are all pretty much crap from the factory. Building auto trannys are all pretty much the same with what you listed. The gears are not really the issue in the trans, its the bands.

Mine Aod trans has already been rebuilt by the previous owner so it should hold up fine for a while.

As in gears i reffered to the ring & pinion gears so it would take off faster.

Same basic idea as the aode. I'd recommend a trans cooler & shift kit first. To be honest, I hate auto's in stock form. Built, i favor them over a manual. (personally I don't think stock auto & built auto are in the same category) A decent stall will wake it up quite a bit even with bad rear gears, definitely make sure you have a good cooler if you go that route. The aod can be a pretty brutal transmission when built.

if you already have h/c/i you should probably know your dyno numbers correct? if so, get yourself a custom torque converter from a reputable company (none of that b&m bull sh*t). then get a transgo shift kit and do the epoxy mod. the stock shifter works like this
1-1gear
d-2&3gear
OD-OD

the epoxy mod changes the shifting to
1-1gear
d-2gear
OD-3&4gear

makes manual shifting easier because you dont have to do the 1-d-1 shuffle
