94 Mustang Rebuild
I have a 94 3.8L mustang with an auto trans that I want to turn into a 5.0L with a 5spd. I bought the car for 100 bucks and the body is almost immaculate with the exception of a few scratches. The car has burned valves in one of the heads and has 180K miles on it. I got a 99 302 out of an Explorer from work for 50 bucks the engine ran well it only has 78K miles on it. Also got the wiring harness and computer from a 95 GT with a 5spd from a friend for free. I had a T5 and pedals for the 94 Mustang from previous deals. The T5 needs to be rebuilt from what I was told. What I was wondering is if I could drop the 302 with the bellhosing and clutch and flywheel and everything connected into the car to make sure all the wiring is set up properly and the car will fire while the actual transmission is away being repaired? Thanks guys I appreciate the help in advance.

They're not stupid questions. Better safe than sorry. No it won't damage the engine. It would be the same as pushing in the clutch & running it. I would be careful with the fan/radiator though. The transmission wont be there to prevent the front to back swaying & you don't want your fan hitting on the radiator. The bellhousing may stop it against the trans tunnel though, just something to look out for.

Well the idea was to put all that together outside of the car so I could drop the motor and trans bellhousing with the clutch and pressure plate on the motor so that when the trans was finished being rebuilt all I would have to do would be jack the car back up and slide her in there.
